Joeboy, named Joseph Akinfenwa Donus, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, entertainer, stage actor, and recording artist who is one of the country’s fastest-rising musicians.
He mainly sang R & R&B and Afropop and began singing at the age of 16, dropping his first single at 17 and rising to fame after his song Baby. Call, All About You, and Beginning are some of the other songs that have helped him gain popularity.
He was influenced by 9ice and ID Cabasa, whom he used to hand out in the studio, and his cover of “Shape Of You” was a big hit.

Joeboy Early Life
Joeboy is a nickname he got in high school; his real name is Joseph, but friends kept calling him Joeboy, and it stuck. Joeboy is the type of person who likes to give it all of the time. He hung out with OGs like 9ice and ID Cabasa in their Akoka studio when he was in primary school. Being in their midst provided him with some encouragement. Joeboy was raised in a musical family.
Joeboy was born in the Nigerian state of Lagos on May 21, 1997.
He was raised in a music-loving family, with his father playing keyboard/piano in church and his older brother singing in the choir. He spent a long time of his childhood in Lagos, Nigeria, where he discovered a passion for music at the age of 16.
He belongs to a family of four brothers and sisters. His musical talent is obvious, but music isn’t his only passion. Joeboy, like many other young artists, is a football fanatic.
Joeboy completed his primary and secondary schooling in Lagos before enrolling at the University of Lagos, Akoka, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources in 2011.

His career took off after he published a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” which was well-received both in Nigeria and worldwide.
The song also brought him to Mr. Eazi, who discovered him and offered him provisional mentorship through his philanthropic project, emPawa Africa. Joeboy was successful in recording the song Faaji with emPawa Africa and Mr. Eazi, which was a huge success. Baby, a love song by the singer, was released in March 2019. In Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya, the song charted in the top ten on Apple Music.
As a follow-up to “Baby,” another hit single, “Beginning,” was released, and it was featured on Beat 1 host Ebro’s discovered segment.
In Nigeria and Uganda, the album reached number one. Joeboy released the album Love & Light on November 8, 2020, which featured five (5) songs recorded under the emPawa Africa Limited label.
